La Tijera History

La Tijera Elementary School was constructed in 1949 on what was once a working cattle ranch. It became a K-8 school in 1981. The original campus was demolished in 2005 to make way for the brand new state of the art school funded under the guidelines of the City of Inglewood Measure K initiative. La Tijera TK-8 Academy of Excellence Charter School opened it’s new doors on January 2011 to just over 300 students. Continually since the 2012-2013 school year, La Tijera has been at full capacity of over 750 students.

Many students who attended La Tijera through the years have gone on to become successful actors, producers, professional athletes, business professionals and educators. La Tijera served as the site of the popular movie, The Wood, which was written and directed by a former La Tijera student.

La Tijera K-8 School is located at 1415 North La Tijera Boulevard Inglewood, California 90302-1022. It is situated in the northwestern section of Inglewood. The surrounding neighborhood consists of single/multi-family dwellings. The Ladera shopping center, along with many other businesses, is within walking distance of the school. The Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is approximately three miles southwest of La Tijera K-8 School. The 405 Freeway is one mile south of the school.

It is evident that the La Tijera Instructional Team consists of dedicated professionals with high expectations for themselves and for the educational development of their students. Also, there is evidence that the faculty and staff believe in the importance of being positive role models to all students by placing significance on the educational preparation necessary to become positive contributors to society. Furthermore, this staff is dedicated to being as well qualified as possible based on their accomplishments.

Dynamic working relationships have been established between the school and the community. With the participation of many members of the community in our Strategic Planning progress, lasting partnerships have been formed. Since 2003, employees from The Home Depot, LA County Fire Department, our local Subway and other local businesses have dedicated their time and resources to help improve the quality of our students education at La Tijera TK-8 Academy of Excellence Charter School.

Within the Inglewood community, there are a host of businesses and other organizations that recognize the value of a strong educational system. The leaders of such organizations are eager to lend their materials and logistical resources, as well as their expertise, to support and benefits all its participants.
